Approximately 1,340 hours of live television coverage. 1,600 hours of video archive material. 17 venues (Gold Coast, Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville). Daily media conference coverage. Two daily highlights packages and edited previews. Commonwealth Games channel. Six long-form sport multi-channels. And NEP covered it all. The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games were the largest sporting event in Australia this decade, complete with opening and closing ceremonies, 18 sports and seven para-sports.
NEP provided HD coverage from beginning to end, and coordinated all broadcasting activity from a custom International Broadcast Center. From here, NEP’s experienced personnel handled incoming video and audio from all venues, distributed feeds to broadcast rights-holders’ home countries, and managed outgoing worldwide transmissions from rights-holders on site. All told, we stationed over 1,450 broadcast technical and operational experts on the ground, deployed 325 cameras at venues in and around the gold coast, ran more than 140km of wire and had 28 OB vehicles and flyaway kits in use.
But we were more than ready for it. After all, this was the fourth time we covered the Commonwealth Games.
